Increased risk of corporate data loss demands that investigators undertaking search and seizure of computer evidence protect it against contamination
For immediate release – 6th December 2005
FLEET (Hampshire, UK) – December 2005 – Ever increasing dependency on electronic data places both commercial and public sector organisations at risk from significant data loss. The advent of multiple Gigabyte (GB) flash memory cards and USB style memory sticks provides those intent on data theft easy tools for obtaining vast quantities of both commercial and personal information.
“In our role as independent Technology Advisers, experts in Data Recovery and as computer forensic specialists; an increasing number of Clients are approaching us worried about actual or potential loss of highly valuable digital assets,” commented Rob Shrubsall, Founder and Chief Technical Expert at CONTENTENGINEER Group. “Digital assets are not only at risk from the more common physical failures, but now from data theft by unscrupulous employees and agency workers.”
The Firm of independent technical experts is aware that in some instances, personal customer information is being extracted from corporate databases, and sold-on illegally to third parties. “With the increased statute and regulation surrounding personal data and human rights, organisations are right to be concerned,” said Mr Shrubsall.
“Early action is key to preventing loss and identifying leaks, “ explained Mr Shrubsall, “if organisations need to prove that employees, agency workers and third parties have been accessing, copying and storing data; evidence needs to be uncontaminated. This free guide provides an introductory reference to finance, human resources, legal and IT departments alike, to assist in identifying storage devices and their correct forensic handling.”
The Firm is keen to re-iterate that these incidents are usually isolated, but by being aware of the potential risks, organisations can take appropriate steps to stop any malpractice.
